A Place Where Children Grow, Learn, and Belong

For more than a century, Day Nursery has been a trusted part of the Scranton community. Families choose us because we provide a safe and enriching environment where children feel supported, encouraged, and excited to learn each day.

Our programs bring together experienced educators, learning through exploration and discovery, and a caring community that helps every child build confidence and curiosity.

Our Story

Day Nursery was established in 1909, when a visionary group of women from the College Club of Scranton recognized an important need—working mothers needed reliable care, and young children deserved a place where they could learn and grow.

More than 115 years later, that same spirit continues to guide us. Day Nursery remains committed to supporting families and providing a welcoming place where children feel comfortable, valued, and ready to learn.

Our Vision

At Day Nursery Association, our mission is to provide high-quality, affordable early learning that nurtures the development of the whole child. We are committed to fostering early education through play-based, developmentally appropriate experiences, while supporting families and building inclusive, caring communities grounded in our core values.

At Day Nursery Association, we envision a vibrant early learning community where every child is nurtured, encouraged, and inspired to grow into a confident, capable learner. We believe that educating the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically—lays the foundation for lifelong success.

Our classrooms are joyful, inclusive spaces where purposeful play and hands-on experiences spark curiosity and build essential skills. Through research-based instruction and warm, supportive relationships, children develop a love of learning, a strong sense of self, and meaningful connections with others.

By partnering with families and fostering a caring, respectful community, we create an environment where every child feels safe, seen, and ready to thrive—in school and beyond.

Our Philosophy

At Day Nursery Association, we believe every child is capable, curious, and full of potential. Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that children learn best in a nurturing, joyful environment where they feel safe, supported, and inspired.

We take a whole-child approach to early education, focusing on each child’s cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language development. Using research-based teaching practices, our educators create meaningful, engaging experiences that help children grow in confidence and ability.

Play is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that purposeful play is essential to learning—it sparks curiosity, encourages exploration, and builds the foundation for academic and lifelong success. Through play, children develop critical thinking skills, creativity, and a deep love of learning.

At Day Nursery, we value each child’s unique strengths and celebrate what makes them special. Our teachers build strong, caring relationships with every child, fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging positive interactions.

We are committed to creating an early learning community where children flourish—where learning is not only intentional, but also inspiring, joyful, and filled with discovery.

Our Educators

Our teachers are the heart of Day Nursery. With certified training and years of experience in early childhood education, our educators bring more than 200 years of combined experience to our classrooms.

Their dedication and enthusiasm create an environment where children feel encouraged to explore, discover, and grow. Our teachers focus on building strong relationships with children and families while supporting each child’s development and readiness for Kindergarten and beyond.
